What to Expect

Arrival & First Day

After clearing Customs (mandatory) at Lajes Airport on Terceira Island and upon picking up your rental car (optional), you will make your way to Praia da Vitória and check into your hotel or pensãoa simple, family-run guesthouse offering comfortable, budget-friendly lodging. Since you’ll likely be tired from travel, plan for a light first day focused on settling in.

We recommend stopping by the Continente Supermarket (Estrada da Circunvalação, 9760-400, Praia da Vitória; open daily 8:30 am – 11:00 pm) to pick up essentials. It also features a bakery and coffee shop, making it a convenient place to refresh. Take time to ease into the island’s pace, adjust to the weather, and become familiar with local culture. You may also want to visit the “Terceira Pilgrimage Center” for maps, resources, and helpful guidance for your journey.

Consider visiting one of the nearby Holy Spirit Impérios in Praia da Vitória for a first time of prayer and reflection. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you in the days ahead. You may also choose to spend quiet time in one of the historic churches in the town center.

*Before leaving for your trip, we highly recommended that you get a copy of Workbook and Guide to the Holy Spirit Pilgrimage by Allan Rodney Tilley.

What You’ll Experience

The Rhythm of the Pilgrimage

Your days on Terceira are intentionally paced to create space for God to move. Rather than a typical vacation where you are rushing from destination to destination, expect a thoughtful rhythm that includes:

  • Guided and personal times of prayer

  • Scripture reflection in peaceful settings

  • Periods of silence and stillness

  • Unhurried movement between locations

This rhythm allows your heart to slow down so you can hear God more clearly.

Sacred Spaces & Encounters

Throughout the island, you’ll visit simple yet meaningful places of worship, including Terceira’s iconic Imperios (Holy Spirit chapels). In these spaces, you can expect:

  • Quiet moments of personal reflection

Opportunities for guided prayer or teaching

A deeper appreciation for enduring expressions of faith

These environments often become powerful settings for personal encounters with God.

Community & Shared Experience

While your journey is deeply personal, you won’t walk it alone. Expect:

  • Meaningful conversations that go beyond the surface

Encouragement and prayer with others on the same journey

A sense of unity as you pursue God

Community becomes a vital part of how God speaks, strengthens, and encourages.

The Beauty of Terceira

Terceira’s natural beauty plays a significant role in your experience. The island’s landscapes create a backdrop that naturally draws your attention to God’s creation. You’ll encounter:

  • Sweeping ocean views and dramatic coastlines

  • Lush green hills and volcanic terrain

  • Quiet places that invite reflection and awe

Creation itself becomes a reminder of God’s presence and power.

A Journey That Mirrors the Heart

This pilgrimage is not just about where you go—but what happens within you along the way. As you move across the island, you may experience:

  • Moments of clarity and direction

  • Areas of personal growth or surrender

  • A renewed awareness of God’s voice

The physical journey often reflects the deeper spiritual one.

Time to Reflect & Respond

Each day creates space not just to receive—but to respond. You’ll have opportunities to:

  • Process what God is revealing

  • Spend extended time in prayer

  • Journal, reflect, and realign your heart

These moments often become some of the most impactful parts of the pilgrimage.

What You’ll Walk Away With

While every experience is unique, many leave Terceira with:

  • A deeper relationship with God

  • Renewed spiritual clarity and purpose

  • Lasting peace and encouragement

  • A stronger foundation in prayer and Scripture

A Final Invitation

This is more than a trip—it’s an opportunity to step into something sacred. As you set aside time to seek God, Terceira becomes a place where distractions fade, faith deepens, and lives are transformed.
